Subject: | Notification to Residential Property Owners of Changes to Official FEMA Flood Plan Map |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation requiring municipalities to contact residents if their flood plain status has changed based on information municipalities receive from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The required communication will include written notice that a change in classification has occurred and also contact information for the National Flood Insurance Program so that constituents have a clear path to properly prepare for the possibility of a flood. As we have seen in areas across Pennsylvania, the risk of flooding is real, and not just in normal high risk areas. As state legislators, it is important that we keep our constituents informed about changes to the flood hazard area map as map updates may affect flood insurance requirements for homeowners and other associated costs and considerations. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation keeping our constituents safe and allowing them to take steps to protect themselves and their largest single investment, their property. |
