Subject: | Co-sponsorship of Resolution Declaring 2016 as “The Year to Cure Cancer” in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution that would recognize 2016 as “The Year to Cure Cancer” in Pennsylvania. At his last State of the Union address, President Obama challenged the nation to direct its resources to finally finishing the fight against cancer. I feel that we should heed the President’s call and bring the fight to Pennsylvania. The Commonwealth has a long and proud history of breakthrough advancements in the medical field including cancer research. The University of Pennsylvania’s Abramson Cancer Center leads the way in immunotherapy and T-Cell treatments. Penn State Hershey College of Medicine is conducting groundbreaking research on a virus that kills triple negative breast cancer cells. The University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute is conducting genetic screening of cancer that can help doctors customize treatments so that patients with melanoma have the best chance of survival. Some issues rise above petty politics, clearly fighting cancer is one such issue. Please join me in supporting this resolution. |
