Subject: | Observing the Month of May 2016 as "Preeclampsia Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania |
In the very near future, I plan to introduce a Resolution that would recognize the month of May 2016 as "Preeclampsia Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. Preeclampsia, including HELLP syndrome and eclampsia, is a dangerous condition of pregnancy that can, in its severest form, lead to maternal and/or infant mortality or premature birth with significant health risks for the mother and the baby. As many as 320,000 cases of preeclampsia are diagnosed in the United States every year with 25 percent of the cases classified as severe. I invite you to join me in cosponsoring this Resolution to help raise public awareness in order to reduce maternal and infant illness and mortality due to preeclampsia and related hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Your support is greatly appreciated. |
