Subject: | Resolution Commemorating 68th Anniversary of State of Israel |
On April 8, 2016, I will introduce a resolution commemorating the 68th anniversary of the State of Israel. The State of Israel was established on May 14, 1948 as an independent Jewish state in the ancient lands of the Middle East where the Jewish people have deep roots. The Jewish people have historically endured great persecution and were largely dislocated from this geographical area for approximately 2,000 years. However, in 1947, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for the establishment of an independent Jewish state in this region. Having resettled in the land of their ancestors, over the course of the last 68 years, they have created a successful democracy in the Middle East in a sovereign state with a strong economy, a powerful military, and a commitment to peace among all people. The State of Israel has been a strong ally to the United States of America in this region, and this relationship continues today. Please join me in commemorating the State of Israel on its 68th anniversary. |
