Subject: | Co-Sponsorship of Legislation – Organization Designation for Special License Plates |
In the near future, I will introduce legislation to allow for variations in the display name of an organization applying to PennDOT for a special organization license plate. Under current law, approved organizations can advocate their interests via special license plates. Special plates are $25 and a portion of the revenue is donated back to the organization. Eligible organizations must be non-profit, participate in service to the community, be based, headquartered, licensed or have a chapter in Pennsylvania and cannot be offensive in purpose, nature, or activity as determined by PennDOT. Some examples of organizations currently approved are Knights of Columbus, Penn State Alumni Association, Sons of the American Legion, and various colleges, universities, police departments, and fire departments. My legislation would allow for variation in the organization name as displayed on the license plate itself, so that individuals are able to tailor the name of the organization based on their involvement with or relationship to the organization. Please join me in sponsoring this important piece of legislation in order to support and recognize Pennsylvania’s charitable organizations. Thank you for your consideration. |
