Subject: | 100th Anniversary of the Edgely Fire Company #1 |
In the near future, I plan to offer a resolution recognizing the 100th anniversary of the Edgely Fire Company #1, which proudly serves the citizens and businesses of Bristol Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. In 1908, the company was originally known as the Headley Manor Fire Company, located on Grieb Avenue in Levittown. It was later incorporated, in 1915. Thirty-four years later, on April 24, 1949, the company’s name was changed to the Edgely Fire Company #1 and it dedicated a new firehouse located at 1301 Edgely Avenue with Fred Hibbs serving as its Chief. The company remained at that location for over 20 years, when in 1970 a new modern station was dedicated at 1200 Edgely Avenue, which serves as the location today. John Doster was Chief at this time, and he served as Chief for 21 years. The new modern location was able to house up to 8 pieces of firefighting apparatus. The crew from Edgely #1 was recently honored by Bristol Township for its role in a four-day mission to save and recover the body of Anthony Gabriele, killed when a silo he was working in collapsed. The Edgely Fire Company #1 was the first to respond to the scene, where their level of compassion, selflessness and tireless determination was noted by Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito. The members of the company were on site the entire four days of the mission, and their service kept with the highest traditions of first responders. Today, the Edgely Fire Company #1 continues to proudly serve the citizens and businesses of Bristol Township in Bucks County, with a department of 35 active members along with 20 life/ honorary members. The current and 16th chief is Carl Pierce, who has been an active member of the Department for over 20 years. He is in his 5th year as Chief and has formerly served as Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, Captain and Lieutenant. During the 100th anniversary banquet celebration being held Saturday April 30, 2016, Chief Carl Pierce will be honored and recognized as an Honorary Life Member. Please join me in honoring the 100th anniversary of the Edgely Fire Company #1, for their selfless commitment to the citizens and businesses of Bristol Township and their continued valor in the line of duty. |
