Subject: | Resolution Congratulating Saint Joseph’s University as a 2016 RecycleMania Grand Champion |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution congratulating the students and faculty of Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia for attaining the title of Grand Champion in the 2016 RecycleMania competition. RecycleMania is the nation’s premier waste reduction and recycling competition. Competing colleges and universities are ranked according to how much recycling, trash, and food waste they collect over two months. The 2016 tournament featured 350 schools across the United States and Canada, including more than 20 Pennsylvania colleges and universities. Participating schools recycled or composted 79.3 million pounds of recyclables and organic materials, preventing the release of 122,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent into the atmosphere, equivalent to preventing annual emissions from 24,000 cars. Saint Joseph’s University was the Grand Champion among the Pennsylvania competitors, with a recycling rate of 48.9 percent, ranking the school 39th among all participants in the United States and Canada. Please join me in recognizing this admirable achievement and congratulating the students and faculty at Saint Joseph’s University for their efforts. |
