Subject: | Grants for Volunteer Fire Companies and Emergency Service Providers |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation amending Section 1403 of Title 4 (Amusements) to allow volunteer fire companies and emergency service providers located in eligible municipalities to apply directly to their counties for casino impact grants. Currently, the application must be made through the municipality. The municipality application process will remain, while adding the option of applying to the county instead. Far too often in my legislative district, I have witnessed these impact grants become political footballs, falling victim to gamesmanship that is not in best interest of our emergency responders or communities. It is my hope that allowing volunteer fire companies and non-profit EMS organizations to apply directly to the county re-development authority (or some other administrative agency that the county uses) we can take politics out of the process and get these funds to those who really feel the impact of a casino: the first responders. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
