MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 3, 2014 03:51 PM
From: Senator Lisa Baker
To: All Senate members
Subject: “Honoring Our Veterans” License Plate for Motorcycles

Please join me in co-sponsoring a two-bill package I am re-introducing to authorize an “Honoring Our Veterans” license plate for motorcycles.

Like the “Honoring Our Veterans” license plate for passenger vehicles, this bill would earmark $15 of the license fee for veterans in need through the Veterans Trust Fund. The first bill amends Title 51 (Military Affairs) to provide for the transfer of funds to benefit veterans directly; the second amends Title 75 (Vehicles) to provide for the license plate itself.

Under Act 194 of 2012, non-veterans were given the opportunity to express their support for veterans by ordering the “Honoring Our Veterans” license plate for their passenger car or truck for $35; $15 of that $35 is then donated to the Veterans Trust Fund. Veterans can obtain the plate for only $20. Money in the Trust Fund is dedicated to helping needy veterans with food, utilities, mortgage or rent payments, health care and other necessities of life.

Since the enactment of Act 194 of 2012, many motorcyclists have expressed a desire to purchase the license plate as well. The same fee and allocation of proceeds would apply.

This legislation was Senate Bill 1146 and 1147 of last session.

Thank you for your consideration in extending this plate to an even greater number of Pennsylvania motorists who want to honor and assist our veterans.
