Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 4, 2014 12:53 PM
From: Senator Lisa Baker
To: All Senate members
Subject: Property Tax Exemption for Disabled Veterans during both Wartime and Peacetime

Please join me in co-sponsoring a bill that proposes to amend the Pennsylvania Constitution to extend the state’s popular property tax abatement program to all income-eligible, totally disabled veterans, regardless of whether they served in the military during a time of officially declared war or not.

Over the years, my office has heard from many 100 percent disabled veterans who have been deemed ineligible for the state’s property tax relief program because their military service fell outside a specified time range.

The bill will correct this oversight and extend the property tax exemption to all members of the military who were totally disabled as a result of their military service, in either times of war or peace.

This legislation was Senate Bill 639 of last session.

Thank you for your consideration in extending this important benefit to veterans with total, permanent disabilities.

Introduced as SB371
