Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 14, 2015 03:44 PM
From: Senator Patrick M. Browne
To: All Senate members
Subject: Designating September 25, 2015, as “International Ataxia Awareness Day in Pennsylvania.”

I will soon introduce a resolution designating September 25, 2015, as “International Ataxia Awareness Day in Pennsylvania.”

An estimated 150,000 individuals are affected by hereditary and sporadic ataxia in the United States. Ataxia is an often fatal degenerative neurological disorder that affects balance, coordination, and speech. This disease can strike anyone at any time, without regard to age, gender, race or creed. There is NO known cure, the only defense is research and prevention through education.

By declaring September 25, 2015 as International Ataxia Awareness Day in Pennsylvania, I hope to educate the public, physicians and allied health professions on the importance of neurological examinations to make early and correct diagnosis.

Introduced as SR163
