Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 21, 2015 12:03 PM
From: Senator Rob Teplitz
To: All Senate members
Subject: Legislation – Extending the Pennsylvania Cancer Control, Prevention and Research Act

In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation that will amend the Pennsylvania Cancer Control, Prevention and Research Act (Act 224 of 1980), extending the sunset date to June 30, 2026.

According to Act 224 of 1980, the Secretary of Health is authorized to award grants and contracts for cancer control, prevention and research to governmental agencies and associations that are organized in Pennsylvania upon the recommendation of the Pennsylvania Cancer Control, Prevention and Research Advisory Board, as well as report to the General Assembly annually.

This legislation was last introduced during the 2006 legislative session. With the exception of Section 6, the Pennsylvania Cancer Control, Prevention and Research Act is scheduled to sunset on June 30, 2016. Section 6 of Act 224 establishes a Cancer Registry to collect and distribute data analysis regarding cancer information within the Commonwealth. This bill extends the Act for an additional 10 years until June 30, 2026.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation in order to maintain PA Cancer Plan initiatives and research.
