Subject: | Black History Month 2016 |
Please join me in sponsoring a resolution recognizing February 2016 as Black History Month in Pennsylvania. Black History Month was first officially recognized by President Gerald Ford 40 years ago. In recognizing, Black History Month, President Ford encouraged the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.[1]” During the month of February, it is important that we continue to acknowledge the significant contributions African Americans made to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and throughout society.
