Subject: | Resolution Condemning Hate Speech of Lincoln University Professor |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution condemning the treacherous hate speech of Lincoln University professor Dr. Kaukab Siddique, and calling for the revocation of his tenure. Dr. Siddique most recently made news following the attacks on Pulse Night Club in Orlando, Florida, complaining on social media that the United States has not given ISIS enough credit for the massacre (Giordano: In wake of Orlando, Lincoln prof keeps spewing hate speech, Philadelphia Daily News, June 23, 2016). He wrote on Facebook that "CNN is coming up with conspiracy theories which are meant to reduce or remove the idea of this being an ISIS victory...With this attack on an American soft target, US media are trying hard to claim it was NOT an ISIS attack." Last year, further demonstrating his sympathy for terrorists, he accused the media of fabricating stories of ISIS’ massacre and starvation of Christian Yazidis. This is not the first time Dr. Siddique has brought negative attention to himself and to Lincoln University for his hate speech. He is an outspoken denier of the Holocaust, remarked that “all women are sluts” in response to the allegations against Bill Cosby, and repeatedly uses offensive and derogatory language toward Jewish and LGBT people. He shields these comments behind his academic freedom to escape professional repercussions which any other person would certainly face. In the past, I have written letters to Lincoln University’s president requesting that Dr. Siddique’s tenure be revoked under their Professional Standards for Faculty. These guidelines include terms of contract termination for “fail[ure] to fulfill professional and contractual obligations or for reasons of professional incompetence, moral turpitude, or financial exigencies facing the University.” Dr. Siddique has exceeded these requirements in his continued use of hateful comments and treasonous support of ISIS. Please join me in co-sponsoring the attached resolution to send a message loud and clear: the General Assembly will not stand for hate speech draped in the cloak of academic freedom at one of our state-related universities. |
