Subject: | Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day |
In the near future, Senator Vulakovich and I plan on introducing a resolution in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack commemorating December 7, 2016 as “Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day” in Pennsylvania. December 7, 1941 is a day that forever will live in infamy. After that day our nation was not the same as we entered into the Second World War. On that day the Japanese launched a surprise attack on the Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Hawaii. The attack lasted only two hours but caused tremendous damage and loss. Over 3,500 military personnel and civilians were killed or injured, and 19 ships were either destroyed or run aground and over 300 aircraft were either destroyed or damaged during the attack. Pennsylvania also suffered loss that day. There were 22 known servicemen from Pennsylvania who lost their lives. These men and women served valiantly to protect and defend our freedom and our country. As you may be aware, the Navy holds an annual Pearl Harbor Day Service at the Capitol on December 7th at 12:55 p.m. in the East Wing Rotunda. We welcome you and your staff to attend this year’s service, recognizing the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day. Pennsylvania will forever remember the individuals who sacrificed or who were lost that day, and to honor them we are offering this resolution. We hope that you will join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Nathan Akers in my office at 787-9684 or nakers@pasen.gov or Nathan Silcox in Senator Vulakovich’s office at (717) 787-6538 or nsilcox@pasen.gov. |
