Subject: | Made in PA |
In the near future, I will re-introduce legislation to boost Pennsylvania jobs by creating a Made in PA program, promoting Pennsylvania-made products and companies. This legislation incorporates changes made to HB 180 last session via the committee process, as well as suggestions made by a bi-partisan work group. Every day, more than 570,000 Pennsylvanians go to work manufacturing an astounding array of products in this state. Millions more Pennsylvanians go to work moving, storing, and selling these products. Made in PA will support these jobs – and lead to the creation of new jobs – by making it easier for consumers to find and purchase Pennsylvania-made products. It would do so through marketing, use of a Made in PA logo, and a publicly-searchable website. In addition, it will feature a business to business component that will help Pennsylvania manufacturers connect with Pennsylvania suppliers. The Made in PA program would be administered by DCED, and care will be taken to work cooperatively with the successful Pennsylvania Preferred program under the Department of Agriculture so that the programs complement each other and do not compete. Pennsylvanians want to support Pennsylvania companies and their friends, family, and neighbors who work for them. Buying Pennsylvania-made is the most direct way to do that. This legislation was crafted with a bi-partisan group of House members and has the support of both unions and employer groups. It had more than 90 co-sponsors last session. Previous co-sponsors: EVANKOVICH, SCHLOSSBERG, BARBIN, BARRAR, BISHOP, BIZZARRO, BOBACK, BOYLE, R. BROWN, BROWNLEE, CALTAGIRONE, CARROLL, COHEN, CONKLIN, D. COSTA, P. COSTA, M. DALEY, P.
