Subject: | Long-Term Care Consumer Relocation Coordination Act |
In the near future, I plan to re-introduce legislation (formerly HB 390), creating a Long-Term Care Consumer Relocation Coordination Act. This legislation was developed out of concerns regarding a situation in my area where a personal care home resident was transferred from a facility in one county to another county and, due to horribly inadequate care and a lack of communication between the facilities and the local area agencies on aging, the resident died a tragic death. I found the story of this woman absolutely heartbreaking and totally unacceptable, and I want to take action necessary to ensure that such circumstances never happen again in Pennsylvania. My legislation would require long-term care facilities where residents transfer from one facility to another to provide notification of such move not only to the other facility, but also to the affected local area agencies on aging. This proposal will help to guarantee through enactment into law that the local area agencies on aging have the information they need to utilize their resources in the best interest of older Pennsylvanians. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. Thank you for your interest and support. |
