Subject: | Pennsylvania Officer Down Advisory Act |
In the near future, I intend to re-introduce legislation – HB97– to establish the Pennsylvania Officer Down Advisory Act to aid in the apprehension of those suspected of causing serious injury or death to a law enforcement officer. The Pennsylvania Officer Down Advisory bears strong similarity to the Amber Alert System, using media broadcasts and messaging signs along highways to provide information identifying the vehicle of a suspected law enforcement officer’s assailant. The quick delivery of this information would help to facilitate the speedy capture of a suspect. My legislation would require that the following criteria be met prior to activation of the system:
Due to the success of Amber Alert, I believe that the establishment of a similar system is necessary in ensuring the imminent capture of those suspected of killing or seriously injuring law enforcement officers. The establishment of this system, which has already been implemented in other states, would help to protect our law enforcement officers and communities from violent criminals. It is imperative that individuals committing acts of violence against law enforcement officers face swift apprehension and justice. Protection of our law enforcement officers and the communities they serve remains a top priority for me a state representative. I hope that you will join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
