Subject: | Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness Week |
I am planning to once again introduce a resolution recognizing the week of April 16-22, 2017 as “Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania. In the United States, between 750 and 3,750 infants and young children are diagnosed with shaken baby syndrome every year. Approximately one third of the victims die as a result of direct brain injuries. In 2006 Pennsylvania became the first state to provide hospital-based education in 100% of all birthing and children’s hospitals. Please join me in cosponsoring this important resolution to bring awareness to this entirely preventable injury. |
