Subject: | Resolution – Commemorating the 69th Anniversary of the Birth of Israel |
On May 5, 2017 (noon), I will introduce a resolution commemorating the 69th anniversary of the birth of Israel. My hope is the resolution will be adopted by the House while the Israeli Consulate is present in the Capitol on May 9, 2017. The Jewish people have endured a long history of invasion, oppression, dislocation, discrimination and genocide. In 1947, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for the establishment of an independent Jewish state and directed inhabitants of the county to take actions facilitating this resolution. On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was established as a sovereign and independent country and the first Jewish state in 2,000 years. From its humble beginnings Israel has emerged as a successful democratic state with a strong economy, a powerful military, and a commitment to peace among all people. Please join us in commemorating the State of Israel on its 69th anniversary. This resolution was considered in 2016 as HR861. The following members were co-sponsors: SANTARSIERO, FREEMAN, COHEN, BAKER, BARRAR, BOYLE, D. COSTA, SCHLEGEL CULVER, DAVIDSON, DeLUCA, DiGIROLAMO, DRISCOLL, FARINA, GODSHALL, HARHART, HEFFLEY, HENNESSEY, PHILLIPS-HILL, KAUFFMAN, KILLION, KIRKLAND, KOTIK, LONGIETTI, MACKENZIE, MAHONEY, MARSICO, MENTZER, METZGAR, MILLARD, MURT, NEILSON, O'BRIEN, O'NEILL, OBERLANDER, PASHINSKI, PAYNE, PICKETT, QUIGLEY, READSHAW, REESE, ROTHMAN, ROZZI, SACCONE, SAYLOR, TOEPEL, VEREB, WARD, WATSON, WHEELAND, COX, MAJOR, GROVE, DONATUCCI and GILLEN |
