Subject: | September 2017 as “Emergency Preparedness Month” in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, we plan on introducing a resolution designating September 2017 as “Emergency Preparedness Month” in Pennsylvania. Each year, the President of the United States proclaims of the month of September as “National Emergency Preparedness Month” to stress the importance of strengthening the security and resiliency of our nation through systemic preparation for the wide range of hazards that threaten the United States in the twenty-first century, including national disasters, cyber-attacks, pandemic diseases, and acts of terrorism. The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) website ready.gov and Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency’s (PEMA) website readypa.gov gives information on how to create a plan in the event of an emergency and provides many resources to help educate individuals on how to handle various disasters. Our resolution urges Pennsylvania residents to observe “Emergency Preparedness Month” by encouraging them to visit the FEMA and PEMA websites, and to utilize education resources to learn how they can become prepared for emergencies. I hope you will join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
