Subject: | Co-sponsorship of Resolution - “Summer Learning Day” |
I plan to introduce a non-controversial resolution designating July 13th, 2017 as Summer Learning Day. This will be a day to reflect on the importance of summertime learning and why we should ensure that students return to the school in the fall ready and able to succeed. Summer learning loss is a significant contributor to the achievement gap but summer learning programs are proven to advance academic and social growth as well as keep children safe during the summer. Additionally, summer youth employment programs engage older youths in meaningful activities that allow them to explore careers of interest, contribute to their community and earn money. Summer learning is critical to helping all kids graduating from high school ready for college, careers and life. It is vitally important that the House of Representatives recognizes the importance of summer learning and supports the organizations, volunteers and other contributors that enrich the lives of our young people. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. Thank you. |
