Subject: | Family Caregiver Month |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution to recognize the month of November as “Family Caregiver Month” in Pennsylvania to recognize and honor the care that more than 1.8 million family caregivers provide to keep their loved ones at home. Uncompensated care provided by family caregivers in the Commonwealth totals almost $20 billion annually. This care, which is often supplemented by Medicaid home and community-based services providers, plays an essential role in keeping children, individuals with disabilities and seniors out of costly institutions. Family caregivers should be commended not only for their dedication to their family but also for helping the Commonwealth avoid more than $37,000 per person per year in Medicaid spending on institutional care. Please join me in supporting family caregivers and extending the gratitude of the House of Representatives for the work they do every day to keep individuals at home where they want to be. |
