MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 18, 2018 11:19 AM
From: Representative Jeff C. Wheeland
To: All House members
Subject: Small Games of Chance Records

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to ease record keeping requirements for small games of chance license holders. Specifically, my legislation will require small games of chance license holders to maintain records related to small games of chance for one year and permit license holders to store their records offsite.

Under current law, clubs must maintain small games of chance records for a period of 5 years and all other small games license holders must maintain records for a period of 2 years. Many of our clubs have limited space available for storage, and the amount of storage space needed to store these records for five years can be very large. Furthermore, most records are maintained in paper-format, which could be considered a fire hazard. For these reasons, I believe we should reduce the record keeping requirement to one year.

Additionally, my legislation will allow license holders to store records offsite, which will further allow our clubs to better utilize their space for their philanthropic purposes. It is important to note that this legislation will also require records stored offsite to be available for inspection by law enforcement.

Please consider cosponsoring this legislation.
