Subject: | Confidentiality of Lottery Winners |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that will amend the State Lottery Law to allow a lottery winner to choose whether they want to disclose their name or other personal information after winning in a multistate lottery game. The city and county of residence of a prize winner would not be considered confidential information. Currently six states-Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and South Carolina-allow lottery winners to remain anonymous. And four more-Colorado, Connecticut, Vermont and Massachusetts-allow anonymity if the winners claim their winnings through a trust. My bill would protect lottery winners from criminals and scam artists that prey on big jackpot lottery winners. It is my belief, that lottery winners from Pennsylvania should have the option as individuals to choose whether to disclose their name or stay anonymous. I hope you join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
