Subject: | 150th Anniversary of the Diocese of Scranton |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Diocese of Scranton. Created in 1868 by Pope Pius IX, the Diocese of Scranton was originally a part of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Currently, the Diocese is made up of 120 parishes, is home to 276,594 Catholics, and covers 11 counties in Pennsylvania. The Diocese of Scranton has been integral to northeast Pennsylvania in many facets, including: faith, education, healthcare, and industry. Presently, the Diocese is home to four Catholic colleges and universities, four diocesan high schools, sixteen elementary schools and two Catholic hospitals. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution that honors this important sesquicentennial for the Diocese of Scranton. |
