Subject: | Ethics and Discrimination/Harassment Standards for Lobbyists |
We must do more to protect individuals within the state capitol from discriminatory and sexual abuse. The well-being of elected officials, lobbyists, legislative staffers, and other victims has been threatened and woefully mistreated. One necessary step we must take to mitigate this issue is to hold lobbyists accountable for violating discrimination protections. In an effort to do so, I plan to introduce legislation to prohibit discriminatory practices by lobbyists and to require such individuals to complete ethics, discrimination, and harassment training as a condition of initial and continued registration. It is my belief that this measure will aid in our efforts to protect against unacceptable acts of sexual and discriminatory conduct in the future. Therefore, I ask that you join me in this effort to ensure that our state capitol remains committed to the peoples’ work and free from sexual harassment and discrimination. |
