Subject: | Resolution – King’s Highway Day in PA |
I plan to introduce a resolution that would designate August 20, 2018, as King’s Highway Day in Pennsylvania. The King’s Highway in Philadelphia, commissioned by King Charles II circa 1660 to connect America’s English Colonies, is the oldest continuously used road in the United States and has since been traveled upon in various historically significant events. Originally stretching 1,300 miles from Charleston, South Carolina to Boston, Massachusetts, the road played a vital role in the ultimate independence of the United States from England. The documentary film titled “The King’s Highway” tells the story of the highway’s historical importance and impact to the region and has been met with much enthusiasm, winning “Best Feature Documentary” at the 2016 First Glance Film Festival in Philadelphia. The non-profit organization, The King’s Highway, continues to educate the public on the history of Northeast Philadelphia, preserve historic buildings, and give back to the community. Please join me in recognizing August 20, 2018 as King’s Highway Day in Pennsylvania. |
