Subject: | Pride Month |
We will soon introduce a resolution designating June, 2018, as Pride Month in the Commonwealth. Pride Month is celebrated each year in June to coincide with the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York. This event served as the tipping point in the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world. Today, Pride Month is an opportunity for the LGBTQ community to come together and celebrate the progress we have made as a country, but also to remember the struggles of the past and to recognize the hard work that still needs to be done to achieve full equality. Pride Month celebrations are held in cities and towns across Pennsylvania and the United States and are enjoyed by millions each year. Members of the LGBTQ community are our family members, friends, co-workers and neighbors. We hope you will join us in designating June, 2018 as “Pride Month” in Pennsylvania. |
