MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 18, 2018 03:06 PM
From: Representative Ryan E. Mackenzie
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Recognizing August 7th at Purple Heart Day in Pennsylvania

In the near future I will be introducing a resolution to recognize August 7th as Purple Heart Day in Pennsylvania and designate the Commonwealth as a Purple Heart state. Across the United States, at least 14 states have honored their combat wounded and killed military veterans by proclaiming their states to be Purple Heart states.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart, an organization created in 1932 by an act of Congress for U.S. war veterans, strives to foster an environment of goodwill among combat wounded veterans, promote patriotism, support legislative initiatives, and provide services to all veterans and their families. This organization, most importantly, ensures that we never forget the sacrifices of veterans killed in action and wounded in combat.

The Purple Heart Trail was created in 1992 by the Military Order of the Purple Heart to be a symbolic trail throughout all 50 states, commemorating and honoring all men and women who have been wounded or killed in combat while serving in the United States Armed Forces. In Pennsylvania, the towns of Water Street to Lewisburg on Route 45 have been designated as part of the Purple Heart Trail.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution to continue honoring our military veterans that have been wounded or killed in combat.

Introduced as HR992
