Subject: | Occupational Limited License Extention |
I plan to introduce legislation which allows for a 21-day extension, of an occupational limited license (OLL). To start serving credit towards a driver’s license suspension, a person must first surrender their valid-non-restricted driver’s license to The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). After successfully serving their suspension, if the license the driver surrendered to PennDOT is still valid, in all attempts, PennDOT will try to ensure the return of that driver’s license through the mail, upon the date the driver becomes eligible to drive without restrictions. However, due to uncontrollable circumstances it’s likely the driver may not receive their driver’s license in the mail on their eligibility date, which is the same date their OLL expires. Under my legislation an individual will be permitted to continue using their OLL, for up to 21-days past their eligibility date or up until the date of receiving their non-restricted driver’s license back in the mail from Harrisburg. I believe this allows ample time for an individual to receive their valid license in the mail. Further, if the driver does not receive the driver’s license in the mail, this allows them to continue driving for 7-10 days, so they can apply for a free never received duplicate. CED:ZA:cmc |
