MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 11, 2018 05:12 PM

Subject: Recognizing October 2018 as “Eczema Awareness Month”

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing October 2018 as “Eczema Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. It is my sincere hope you will join me in this effort.

Eczema refers to a group of conditions that cause the skin to become red, itchy and inflamed. Eczema is noncontagious and affects more than 30 million Americans. Although the exact cause of eczema is unknown and there is no cure, several treatments exist to alleviate symptoms arising from the condition.

While eczema is a skin condition, correlated symptoms and ailments experienced by eczema patients can restrict life choices, hinder performance at school or work and impact mental health and overall quality of life. Individuals with eczema oftentimes face significant barriers to access medical treatment, further adding to the difficulties faced by affected individuals. With this in mind, the goal of my resolution is to bring greater attention to eczema and to support the millions of Americans living with this condition.

I invite all members to co-sponsor this important legislation.
