Subject: | Recognizing “National Travel and Tourism Week” (May 7-13, 2017) and “Tourism Day” (May 9, 2017) in Pennsylvania |
In the future, we intend to introduce a resolution recognizing May 7-13, 2017 as “National Travel and Tourism Week” in Pennsylvania and May 9, 2017 as Tourism Day. This year Tourism Day is officially being called “Travel Rally Day.” “National Travel and Tourism Week” and “Travel Rally Day” are designed to draw attention to and recognize the economic, social and cultural impacts of travel and tourism in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States. Tourism is Pennsylvania’s second largest industry, supporting over 489,000 jobs and generating $41 billion in total economic impact from 193 million visits by leisure and business travelers. Many small businesses are involved in the tourism industry, and the hotels, restaurants, bed-and-breakfasts and attractions that are run by these small businesses constitute an important and vital segment of local economies across the Commonwealth. Travel and tourism provide an opportunity for Pennsylvania to showcase its spectacular natural scenery and culture to all travelers. Therefore, please join us in recognition and celebration of the importance of travel and tourism in the lives of Pennsylvanians. If you have any questions regarding this resolution, please contact Christine Zubeck at 717-787-6123 or czubeck@pasen.gov. Thank you for your consideration. |
