Subject: | Health Care Transparency in Pricing (Previously HB1876) |
In the near future, I plan to re-introduce legislation that would require health care providers to publish the cost of health care procedures. My legislation would be a first step in bringing market forces to the health care industry. It is a reasonable request, as in most market transactions, for the consumers to be aware of and consent to the cost of a health care procedure. The legislation would allow the health care provider to decide how they publish the costs of the procedures. As the government absorbs significantly more of the cost for health care, it is paramount that transparency and accountability be part of the process. At the time a patient schedules an appointment with a health care provider, they should be aware of the cost of the procedure, regardless of who is paying for the procedure. Please consider co-sponsoring this important piece of health care transparency legislation. Previous Co-sponsors: DAY, STEPHENS, BERNSTINE, WARD, A. HARRIS, COX, GROVE, LAWRENCE, KEEFER and IRVIN |
