Subject: | Establishing a Congressional Redistricting Commission |
When legislators draw electoral district boundaries, individual citizens suffer; our current process tosses aside the notion of accurate and equal representation. Currently, the state legislature develops and passes a bill with the defined congressional districts, which eventually goes to the governor’s desk. I am proposing to revise this process by giving power back to the people. The legislation that I am introducing will establish a new 14-person commission that will convene every ten years for the purposes of redrawing congressional district boundaries. This commission would be comprised of individuals from both major political parties as well as individuals who do not affiliate with either party. Beyond this, my bill provides for new redistricting standards and requires increased transparency throughout the process. Support this legislation and give power back to the people when it comes to how we draw our congressional districts. |
