Subject: | United States Semiquincentennial |
In 2026, we will celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States of America. Like previous celebrations in 1976 and 1876, Pennsylvania will play a key role in marking the anniversary. To assist in the celebration, the General Assembly enacted a law last year creating the Pennsylvania Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial. The commission will guide, plan and oversee the state’s participation. However, in creating the Commission, members of public safety were not included. As a result, we propose adding two ex officio members to the commission: a representative from PEMA and a representative from the State Police. Keeping these two offices in the loop will help ensure that all events are conducted with an eye toward keeping visitors safe. I hope you will join us in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
