Subject: | Dignity for Incarcerated Women: Re-Entry Mentoring Program |
After being incarcerated, the process of re-entering society is often overwhelming, confusing and stressful. These returning members of our society deserve to have support from someone who knows first-hand the mental, physical, and material challenges they face. My legislation creates a program that allows formerly incarcerated people to mentor currently incarcerated people. Incarcerated women face particular challenges and can benefit greatly from mentorship. This program will bring many benefits to the individual, to our communities and to the state: receiving a visit from a mentor reduces the risk of recidivism by 29% and can help even more Pennsylvanians re-enter our communities. Please join me in creating a mentoring program that will benefit incarcerated people, their families, communities and our entire state. |
