MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 15, 2019 08:30 AM
From: Representative Joe Webster
To: All House members
Subject: Subject: National Military Spouse Appreciation Day

National Military Spouse Appreciation Day will be celebrated on Friday, May 10, 2019. On this day, we honor the contributions and sacrifices of America’s military spouses. While we often recognize the many sacrifices of our veterans and military personnel, the millions of men and women who support our troops every day during and after deployment may be overlooked.

The armed forces organize special events and programs, including spouse appreciation luncheons, educational workshops, an employment fairs in honor of Military Spouse Appreciation Day.

In 1984. President Ronald Reagan declared May 23rd the first Military Spouse Appreciation Day. He issued a proclamation stating, “Throughout the years, as the numbers of our married men and women in uniform have grown and as their military missions have become more complex and dispersed, their spouses have made countless personal sacrifices to support the Armed Forces. In many instances, they have subordinated their personal and professional aspirations to the greater benefit of the service family.” This is even more true today as our military members deploy more often and our spouses cover all the home bases.

Please join me as we honor our military spouses by designation May 10, 2019, as Military Spouse Appreciation Day in Pennsylvania.

Introduced as HR254
