Subject: | Recognizing the Value of Whole Milk/Supporting schools to serve whole milk |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the value and healthy properties of whole milk, and the importance they play in our children’s growth. This legislation also supports U.S. Congressman Thompson’s federal legislation of the same subject. Milk consumption in schools has declined because children aren’t consuming the varieties of milk made available to them via the federal school meal program, which are primarily low-fat and fat-free varieties of milk. These types of milk lack the important nutrients, and flavor, that whole milk contains that help our kids to have strong teeth and bones, maintain a healthy weight, and have overall healthy growth. Recently U.S. Congressman Glenn Thompson introduced federal legislation supporting the re-introduction of whole milk to school lunches. I, too, am a big proponent of schools providing whole milk as an option, and in support of that legislation, and more importantly in support of our children’s health, am introducing a resolution that shows this legislative body’s support to put whole milk back in schools. Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution. Thank you. |
