Subject: | Inmate Sex Change Prevention Act |
In the near future, I intend to introduce the Inmate Sex Change Prevention Act that prohibits the Department of Corrections from using taxpayer monies to fund an inmate’s gender-confirmation surgery or the administration of hormone therapy. I was troubled to learn that taxpayers pay approximately $60,000 per year to fund the hormone therapy received by inmates diagnosed with gender dysphoria throughout the Commonwealth. This bill will require any inmate with such diagnosis to bear all costs associated with gender-confirmation surgery or hormone therapy shots. I do not believe that gender dysphoria is a medical condition that warrants the use of taxpayer monies to pay for the costly procedures necessary for an inmate to transition to a member of the opposite sex. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to help protect against this heedless and unwarranted use of taxpayer dollars. |
Introduced as HB2144
