Subject: | Recognizing the Month of September 2019 as “Emergency Preparedness Month” in Pennsylvania |
Each year, the President of the United States proclaims the month of September as “National Emergency Preparedness Month” to stress the importance of strengthening the security and resiliency of our nation through systemic preparation for the wide range of hazards that threaten the United States in the 21st century, including national disasters, cyber attacks, pandemic diseases, and acts of terrorism. The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) website, www.ready.gov, and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency’s (PEMA) website, www.ready.pa.gov, give information on how to create a plan in the event of an emergency and provide many resources to help educate individuals on how to handle various disasters. Our resolution urges Pennsylvania residents to observe “Emergency Preparedness Month” by encouraging them to visit the FEMA and PEMA websites, and to utilize educational resources to learn how they can become prepared for emergencies. I hope you will join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
