| Subject: | Urging Congress to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the women who joined the workforce during World War II, our “Rosie the Riveters” |
| During World War II, millions of women answered the call to enter the workforce and build the equipment American soldiers needed for the war. These women made an invaluable contribution to the war effort. To recognize this contribution and sacrifice, we must urge Congress to pass House Resolution 1773 and collectively award the Congressional Gold Medal to the “Rosie the Riveter” women. We would honor the millions of women who embodied what Rosie stood for: strength, patriotism, sacrifice, honor and country. Thousands of working women from this Commonwealth would be a part of this honor. During the war, Pennsylvania women, built ships at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, worked steel mills in the Mon Valley, assembled thousands of anti-aircraft guns in York, built Mack trucks in Allentown, and repaired airplanes in Middletown at the Harrisburg Shops. Our Commonwealth owes a debt of gratitude to these powerful women, who still inspire our young women today to aspire to leadership roles across all industries and government. I ask for your support and to join me in co-sponsoring this resolution and encourage Congress to pass this important resolution and provide the recognition to the working women who lived “Rosie the Riveter.” |
