Subject: | National Epilepsy Awareness Month |
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder distinguished by its recurring seizures. Over 3.4 million Americans have epilepsy, with 1 in 26 people becoming diagnosed with epilepsy during their lifetimes. Each year, over 50,000 deaths occur in the United States as a result of epilepsy. Multiple groups, such as the Epilepsy Foundation in Western/Central Pennsylvania and Eastern Pennsylvania, help bring awareness of epilepsy to Pennsylvanians. By educating individuals on epilepsy and teaching them how to respond to individuals experiencing a seizure, these groups help present knowledge that may potentially save lives. Please join me in recognizing the efforts of these groups and those affected by epilepsy by supporting this resolution recognizing November 2019 as “National Epilepsy Awareness Month.” These individuals and groups deserve to be recognized and Pennsylvania should learn more about this serious, yet treatable condition. |
