Subject: | Resolution – Designating November 2019, as “Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania |
Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death in the United States. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network estimates that 45,750 deaths and 56,700 new cases of pancreatic cancer were expected to occur in the United States in 2019. There are typically no symptoms during the early stages of pancreatic cancer and it spreads quickly throughout the body making it difficult to detect and harder to treat during later stages. The good health and well-being of the residents of the Commonwealth are enhanced as a direct result of increased awareness about this disease and research regarding early detection. In an effort to help those individuals suffering from pancreatic cancer as well as to focus on public policy, research funding, patient services, public awareness, and developing effective treatments and a cure for pancreatic cancer, organizations such as the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the National Pancreas Foundation recognize the month of November as “Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.” Please join me in supporting these efforts and designating November 2019, as “Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. |
