Subject: | June 2020 as "Cancer Survivor Recognition Month" |
In the near future, I plan to once again introduce a resolution designating June as "Cancer Survivor Recognition Month" in Pennsylvania, honoring all cancer survivors for their strength and courage in the face of this devastating diagnosis. A cancer survivor is anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life. Cancer survivors are all ages and from all walks of life. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, among adults aged 15 years and older diagnosed with cancer between 2009 to 2015, the five-year net cancer survival rate for all cancers combined was 64.3% in Pennsylvania. Survivorship can be both stressful and hopeful. Despite the challenges, many cancer survivors find that life after a cancer diagnosis can be meaningful, productive, and even triumphant. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to recognize cancer survivors in Pennsylvania. |
