Subject: | COVID-19 Pandemic - Resolution Encouraging Food Donations |
During these uncertain and truly unprecedented times, many Pennsylvanians are experiencing financial hardships, as well as burdensome worries relative to the potential effects that COVID-19 could have on the health and safety of their friends and family. The possibility of contracting COVID-19 is just one of the strains currently placed on many citizens located across our Commonwealth and nation. Sadly, in addition to worrying about the potential health implications related to this virus, many residents are now out of work, and the ability to purchase simple necessities may currently be beyond their reach. For some individuals and families, the likelihood of facing food insecurity has grown significantly due to the lack of a steady and reliable income. To help address this concern, I will be introducing a resolution that would both encourage food donations and recognize the importance of the federal Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act and our state’s Donated Food Limited Liability Act, which protect individuals who donate food in good faith from civil or criminal liability related to their food donations. I believe it is now more important than ever that individuals who are able to weather the current economic storm lend a hand to help those in need. I hope you will join me in support of this important measure to encourage food donations in our communities. |
