MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 13, 2020 03:20 PM
From: Representative David H. Zimmerman
To: All House members
Subject: Nursing Home Employee Quarantine

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would require nursing homes to house and feed those employees who require quarantine due to their exposure to COVID-19 in the nursing facility.

We have all watched as nursing homes, personal care homes and assisted living centers have been ravaged by the novel-coronavirus. As these facilities were on the front end of the Governor’s lockdown, it is particularly concerning the impact and infiltration of this virus on both the residents and employees of these facilities. Nursing home employees are stretched thin and requiring additional burdens of them at a time when their selflessness may have exposed them to this illness is not acceptable.

My legislation is intended to allow these employees a safe way to shelter in place while all their needs are being met. This will also reduce the stress on the employees who worry they will bring the coronavirus home to their family members. The legislation specifically allows the employees to continue to work during this time if they are symptom free and have the desire to do so. It also protects them from being required to work in order to afford basic necessities if they should become ill.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
