Subject: | Sgt. James O’Connor IV Memorial Highway |
As a 23-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department and a 15-year veteran of the city’s SWAT Unit, Philadelphia Police Sgt. James O’Connor IV dedicated his life to protecting his city. His unwavering commitment and courage was admired by all those lucky enough to know him. Tragically, at 46 years old, Sgt. O’Connor lost his life in the line of duty on March 13, 2020, while serving a homicide warrant in the Frankford neighborhood of Philadelphia. In honor of his exemplary conduct, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Outlaw posthumously awarded him three medals during his funeral: the Medal of Honor, Purple Heart, and the Sgt. Robert Wilson, III Medal of Valor. To ensure that the memory of one of Philadelphia’s finest lives on, I am introducing legislation to dedicate State Route 1015, known as Knights Road, in the City of Philadelphia as the Sgt. James O’Connor IV Memorial Highway. As a sign of our immense respect and gratitude for Sgt. James O’Connor IV, I ask that you join me in remembering his life by supporting this proposal. Thank you. |
