Subject: | Water Hardship Funds |
Many hard-working individuals and families struggle to pay their bills and other basic household costs. Water and wastewater services are one such cost. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that now, more than ever, our communities are strongest when neighbors reach out a helping hand to their fellow neighbors. For this reason, I plan on introducing a bill that would create the Pennsylvania Water Hardship Fund. Through this program, customers will be able to donate a minimum of just one dollar to a fund that would go directly to fellow customers with delinquent water bills, who are in need of support. These funds will be collected and administered by the water service and sewer companies with additional support from the Public Utilities Commission. Programs like these are absolutely critical to ensure that struggling families can maintain access to clean water for daily household needs. By providing the opportunity for neighbors to support their fellow neighbors, we are doing just that. Please consider co-sponsoring this important piece of economic relief. |
