Subject: | Rep. MaryLouise Isaacson Co-Sponsor Request-Authorize the Leasing of Land Within the Delaware Riverbed |
An ongoing redevelopment project – the Battery – will help to revitalize the long-vacant power station property once belonging to the Philadelphia Electric Company. Once complete, the Battery project will encourage waterfront investment, enable waterfront development in areas to the north of the site, and contribute to the economies of Philadelphia and our state. For the Battery project to continue, and for the area to be redeveloped in a uniform and unencumbered fashion, land within the Delaware Riverbed belonging to the state must be leased to the developer overseeing the project. I plan to introduce legislation authorizing the Department of General Services, with concurrence from the Department of Environmental Protection, to lease land within the Delaware Riverbed for an initial term of 99 years. Please join me in co-sponsoring this simple, commonsense piece of legislation allowing redevelopment and revitalization to continue in the city of Philadelphia. Your consideration is greatly appreciated. |
